Ethnocultural minorities. Documented histories. Gypsies in Romania (1919-1944)
The collection of documents regarding the Gypsies in Romania (1919-1944)* comes to cover a much needed area that is often considered insufficiently developed. Organized in a timely manner, the historical testimonies are showing two important moments of this ethnic group: the effort to create an Association of all Roma in Romania, and a less fortunate and tragic moment, that of the deportation of the roma population - with all the suffering and loss - in the Transdnister region, during the regime of Ion Antonescu. It brings to the public in a compact manner a series of 365 documents and several eyewhitness stories of the survivors of the Holocaust, several maps and drawings are also included in what could become a genuine picture in the history of this ethnic group. For this volume were used extensively the materials indexed by the Romanian National Archives, especially the archives of the General Police Directorate, General Gendarmerie Directorate, the Prefecture of Police in Bucharest and other national institutions.
